3 Reasons to try mineral make-up
- It doesn’t cause breakouts. Mineral make-up is made of finely milled powders that come directly from elements of the earth. Make-up that is 100% mineral is free of potentially irritating artificial fragrances, colours and preservatives. And because its noncomedogenic (translation: it won’t clog pores), it’s a good choice for oily or acne prone skin. Another plus is that it’s so gentle you won’t have to take it off before you exercise.
- It provides a sunscreen. Several minerals typically found in this make-up, such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide UVA & UVB protection. This is great for those of you who don’t like wearing sunscreen under make-up. The products usually carry the number on the label (usually SPF 15 to 20). While mineral cosmetics are fine for every day protection, you’ll still need a traditional sunscreen for extended exposure.
- It looks more natural. These products come in powder form so they never feel heavy or look cakey. You may get less coverage, but your complexion will still appear smooth. Mineral make-up also offers excellent luminosity, giving skin a natural glow. And because powder foundation is easier to apply than liquid; mistakes are less likely.
Putting on powder: easy steps to a flawless finish
- For the most seamless coverage, choose a natural bristled, tapered brush.
- Dip the brush into the powder and swirl the bristles against the inside of the containers lid, this will help the brush absorb the minerals. Tap the brushes side on the lid to remove any excess. You shouldn’t be able to see any make-up on the bristles.
- Buff skin in a circular motion to disperse the products evenly.
